Forklift operation– (QLD May 2010). The purpose of the safety alert is to remind employers and forklift operators of the need to operate forklifts in a safe manner. A recent fatality in Queensland has highlighted the need for employers and operators to ensure forklifts operations and processes meet best practice
 
Go-kart– (NSW April 2010). A fatal accident at a New South Wales go-kart track has prompted a safety alert, recommending people do not go for a ride if their hair or clothing is not properly secured. The 26-year-old Sydney woman died earlier this month when her Islamic head dress got entangled in the rear axle of the go-kart at a Port Stephens track.
 
Foil ceiling insulation– (NT March 2010). Electrical workers & contractors, tradespersons and householders must be aware of the electrical safety risks associated with ceiling spaces where foil insulation has been laid.

MINC Risk Services provide a facility to inspect and test handrails / balustrades for three areas of compliance to the requirements of Australian Standards and the Building Code of Australia.

The three areas of testing are:

  • Visual Condition Assessment

  • Compliance Assessment

  • Dynamic Load Test

MINC Risk Services can conduct this work on any balustrade that is installed whether it is

  • Shopping Centre
  • Apartment complex
  • High Rise building
  • Carparks
  • Or any area where handrails are installed

On completion of the testing the client shall receive a written report which outlines the finding in the 3 areas supported by pictures and a description of the Hazard identified.

The following are some questions which you may like to ask yourself. Can you answer Yes to all seven of them? If not then we suggest you call us to arrange for our Auditor to conduct the tests.

  • Are your Balustrades maintained in a safe condition to the original and approved standards?
  • Are you maintaining and monitoring the fixings against corrosion?
  • Are the walls and flooring around the Balustrade in an “As New” condition?
  • Is the construction of your balustrade still as new?
  • Do your Balustrades comply with BCA requirements for – Height, Climbing Footholds, Gaps?
  • Do your Balustrades comply with Australian Standards for – specified measurable forces – inward, outward and downward?
  • Are you fulfilling your “duty of care”?
